Q1) What is your coaching philosophy?
I believe Pickleball should be fun, inclusive, and social, a sport where friendly competition goes hand in hand with camaraderie, and where players of all ages and skill levels can enjoy the game together.
As a coach, I encourage progress, not perfection. Everyone learns at a different pace, and improvement comes through consistent effort, patience, and a willingness to keep learning.
My goal is to help players develop their skills and confidence while enjoying the process. When people are having fun and celebrating small improvements along the way, the results often follow naturally.
Beyond coaching, I am passionate about using Pickleball as a platform for community engagement. Through outreach initiatives, I have had the opportunity to introduce the sport to different groups and bring people together through play. To me, Pickleball is more than a game but a platform to connect, encourage one another, and foster a sense of community.

Q2) How do you structure your lessons i.e. what can a student expect during a typical coaching session with you?
Every player is different, so I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to coaching. For first-time students, I usually begin with a conversation to understand their goals and identify the areas they would like to learn/improve, whether it is dinking, lobs, serve returns, court positioning, or other aspects of the game. I also assess their current level and observe areas where I believe they can develop further.
Based on this, I tailor each lesson to the individual’s needs while building a structured progression plan to help them improve steadily over time. I also incorporate fun drills, game-based scenarios, and friendly challenges to keep sessions engaging and practical. Learning is most effective when players enjoy the process and can immediately apply what they have learnt on the court.
With consistent practice and commitment, students can expect to see meaningful improvements in all aspects of their game over a 10-week programme.
Q3) What is a non-negotiable Pickleball stroke/skill that you believe every student must/should learn and master?
Many students come to lessons eager to learn the more advanced or flashy shots, but if I had to identify one non-negotiable skill, it would be footwork.
Good footwork is the foundation of every aspect of Pickleball. The ability to move efficiently and position yourself well helps you execute shots more effectively. In many cases, the difference between an average player and a strong player is not the shot itself, but how well they move to set up for it.
Beyond on-court skills, I also place great emphasis on gym work, physical conditioning and injury prevention. Pickleball is an incredibly enjoyable sport, but as players spend more time on the court, the risk of overuse injuries increases.
Strengthening the core, improving mobility, and building overall fitness can go a long way towards reducing injuries and enhancing performance. I often share Pickleball-specific exercises and training tips with students to help them build a stronger foundation both on and off the court.
Q4) How do you maintain patience with students who may take longer to grasp concepts? Would you tell a student that Pickleball may not be for him/her?
Everyone learns at a different pace, and not every student comes to me with the same goals. Some aspire to compete, while others simply want to enjoy the game and stay active. My role as a coach is to adapt my teaching approach to individual needs and learning style.
With patience, consistent practice, and the right guidance, most students will improve over time. In fact, I have yet to meet a student whom I would consider “hopeless.” This goes to show that Pickleball is not hard to learn. With a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, most people can develop their skills and begin enjoying the game surprisingly quickly.
Q5) Tell us about a rewarding/memorable moment where a student of yours made you proud?
One memorable experience was a friend who had only recently picked up Pickleball and decided to take a few coaching sessions with me. After just a handful of lessons, he went on to win his club’s internal tournament. I was incredibly proud, not just because of the result, but because I could see him applying the skills, strategies, and confidence we had worked on together.
Seeing my students enjoy the game while continually improving their skills gives me immense satisfaction.
Q6) What advice would you give Pickleball enthusiasts who may be considering Coaching as a side-hustle or a full-time gig?
Coach with your heart. You will meet students who genuinely appreciate the time and effort you invest in their development. There is immense satisfaction in watching them grow in confidence and improve their game.
Many people assume that being a good player automatically makes them a good coach, but the two are very different skills. Coaching is not about showing others what you can do, it is about helping them achieve what they can do.
Never stop being a student of the game yourself. The best coaches are lifelong learners who remain curious, continue to refine their skills, and stay open to new ideas and techniques.
